So being devoid of information on what the current administration is doing to destroy our SS, Medicare, Medicaid and so on is a good thing? Where is AARP on fighting to protect this? Acting Deputy SSA Commissioner Dori Diaz should be discussed and reported by AARP... Where is that?

I have re-read my second post here on AARP, and I cannot comprehend how my appreciation for a forum, sans politics, could be construed as a desire for political ineptitude or ignorance. To the contrary, I believe one should be well-informed politically, and societally polite and accepting, that not every forum or venue needs to be, nor should be, a repository of political opinion and ... one's sage advice on the matter.

There are other areas here at AARP for that discussion. I may see you there.

Yep that’s the reason “The Front Porch” is here - to get away from some of the stuff that bears down on us everyday.

Here we post stuff that is perhaps a bit mindless, fun, remembering the good ole days, the beauty of our countryside and more.

This is an escape board and we want to keep it this way - there are many other places to discuss all of those things.

Well, Gail recommended a movie (girl flick, I think, but I'll recommend it to my wife and take a look. It has a great cast.)

I'm reading a book titled: Artificial Intelligence, Hope, and the Human Spirit. Would you believe Dr. Henry Kissinger, at 100 years old, co-authored this book? I wouldn't have imagined him knowledgeable on this topic. Boy, was I wrong!

Sorry, I was never much interested in sports. I grew up in a household of 3: Mother, sister, me. Wrestled in HS, but that's about it. Sports weren't (wasn't?) a household topic, and I never got into it much. I'm definitely cheering on others, though, who enjoy it! Sportsmanship was a huge takeaway from scholastic team sports. That was a huge advantage to all of us.

There's a great sportsmanship lesson in one of my favorite episodes of Andy Griffith. In the story, Andy teaches his son how to accept defeat, and to do it with dignity and a proper frame of mind -- to be determined for a better outcome in your future endeavors, but to grow from the experience:

Ah, the days of yore. Another favorite episode from the show is one where Opie shoots a bird in a tree. Andy schools his son about having shot the bird purely for fun and without consideration or much thought about it. He takes the boy to his bedroom window, opens it, and even my eyes welled when he asks his son to listen to the mama's little ones calling to her from their nest.

I remember the one about the bird, but for a different reason. I did the same as Opie, I had to go back and bury the bird. As I was doing it I looked up in the tree and it seemed like every bird in 4 states was watching. Never ever made that mistake again.
