Good morning to everyone on the Front Porch on this very sunny Sunday morning in June, 2020! May everyone have have a nice day with a pitcher of ice ice tea or lemonade in your refrigerator.

Perfect Lemonade Recipe

Prep time: 10 minutes

Yield: Serves 6For more intense lemon flavor, grate the zest from one fresh lemon and add the zest to the simple syrup as you are making it. Once the sugar has dissolved in the water remove from heat and let the zest seep in the simple syrup for several minutes, then strain out the zest when you add the simple syrup to the lemon juice.

INGREDIENTS

1 cup white, granulated sugar (can reduce to 3/4 cup)

1 cup water (for the simple syrup)

1 cup lemon juice

2 to 3 cups cold water (to dilute)

METHOD

1 Make "simple syrup": Place the sugar and water in a small saucepan and bring to a simmer. Stir so that the sugar dissolves completely and remove from heat.

Juice the lemons: While the water is heating for the simple syrup, juice your lemons. Depending on the size of the lemons, 4 to 6 of them should be enough for one cup of juice.

Combine lemon juice, simple syrup, water: Pour the juice and the simple syrup sugar water into a serving pitcher. Add 2 to 3 cups of cold water and taste. Add more water if you would like it to be more diluted (though note that when you add ice, it will melt and naturally dilute the lemonade).

If the lemonade is a little sweet for your taste, add a little more straight lemon juice to it.

Chill: Refrigerate 30 to 40 minutes.

Serve with ice, sliced lemons. Enjoy!

Good morning to everyone on the Front Porch on this first Friday of May, 2020 better known as May Day!

May Day - History

The first Labour Day day in India celebrated on May 1, 1923. A traditional labour union movement is an eight-hour day movement, which tells to implement eight hours of work, eight hours of recreation and eight hours of rest. Labour Day originated from the United States of America. In the 19th century, the industrialists exploited the labour class and made them work up to 15 hours a day. The workers showed courage and stood up against this exploitation.

May already! Not only are daysrunningtogether, but monthsarestartingtoruntogethertoo.

This month marks the 4th anniversary of the TNR furkids. It was four years ago that mama cat showed up with her two fuzzy baby boys in tow. Maybe we will do a party with treats and toys. It was distressing to hear about domestic cats and coronavirus. I tried to get the kids to wear little masks, but they weren't having it. We still do our nightly walkabouts, keeping our distance except when they sneak attack me. However, none of them will approach other humans and they're pretty territorial when it comes to other 4-legged interlopers, so hopefully, all will be well. 🤞

@MsStretch

Yup, it’s true our internal clocks are messed up courtesy of all this inactivity, courtesy of the pandemic. CNN did a report.

Have had to increase my cheat sheets for computer work, starting to forget simple tasks I’ve done for decades.

Somewhere between dread and joy at thought of masking and gloving up to make service calls.

But, promises have been made - yeesh, if I can find just in case spare webcam. Or my pesky AirPods, know they’re somewhere.

Ordered a 5 pack of masks finally from Maine, should be here by Who knows when. In the meantime it’s N95’s and a club for close talkers.

Couldn’t bring myself to buy $$$ pricey single masks, and needed more than two , washable. Local MAine CDC page has masks made up here, which may serve double use.

When black flies happen, should in theory be able to breathe without inhaling flies or needing to do the wave.🤣

Basic White no flashy colors, and NOT dusty former catnip bags. We apparently have another cash crop, growing in greenhouses.

Enjoy

Froze

Hi there, Porch Peeps,

Happy May!

As usual, not much going on here.

Sunday grocery shopping as usual went well at my comfort store...Acme. My Sunday friends showed up and we chatted for a few minutes.

Sold one outfit on Ebay yesterday so went to the post office today....long line in there for some reason.

My Starbucks is still closed but there is hope that they may open more of the drive-throughs this week. :catwink:

Annoyed at my neighbors...

Just seems so unfair and irresponsible that my next door neighbors were having a BBQ…3 extra cars parked outside their house…ironically a face mask hanging from one of the rear view mirrors. It’s like someone gave them a green light to say to _ell with COVID-19. Meanwhile at the grocery store we were all melting behind face masks and being “logged in,” and there is a worker spraying all the carts outside the store.

And I’m also annoyed at the fact that this is one day we could finally open the windows and my whole house smelled so badly from smoke, I had to close all the windows. Just venting! :catlol:

Keep calm and carry on!

Monday all - 47* and overcast with winds, expecting rain or snow tonight. Was hot yesterday 70*, and had to work feeling it today.

There comes a day when your body says crawling on oak is not conducive to good health. That day was yesterday, had to snake ethernet cables for someone.

Met local wildlife cutting through back yards in village as I was trying to go to the convenient store, across the street. Had my evacuation route planned just in case.

Fortunately she walked across street and kept moving.

Beautiful weather in NW Georgia for May. No serious heat and expecting a cool down tomorrow from the high of 80 today. Supposedly the lock down is no longer in place but not much is open other than essential businesses. Sadly the library is still closed. There is a branch with drive through but at some distance from me and the book I ordered is here at my local branch. The county I live in has kept infections to a minimum while the counties surrounding us are somewhat higher. May give us false sense of security.

Based on previous flu pandemics 8 weeks of lock downs are pretty effective for slowing virus for a while anyway. May 13 will be a full 2 months and I have a haircut appointment next week. This salon has very few walk- ins and I feel pretty safe. @Frozenoem love your moose picture, just trying to figure out if that is pavement or mud on the street.

Almost starting to miss diaries and log sheets for just what today is.

@LydiaN586309

Actually looking forward to plugging in and charging the lawnmower, don’t know when I’ll get to use it but, it does need a 24-hour charge to start.

Figure with another couple of 35-50 mph windy days, maybe the sand on my lawn will disappear.🤣 Most snow has melted👍.

Need to digitize another pile of vinyl records for a friend, while I can remember how, and still have a functioning turntable.

Still trying to pack my electronics, and still working up courage to pickup my speaker, to repair it.

It’s just not warm enough to monitor , tapes or records in garage. House and woodstove is more conducive to my health, with always on coffee maker.

Hope all enjoy the day, my delivery was left at post office and that means a walk is needed.

Here’s hoping I don’t need a truck and there light.🤣 Tried to get up there yesterday but, winds kept my case blowing behind me, like a sail.👎🏻

Froze

Good morning to everyone on the Front Porch on this first Thursday of May, 2020!

Our trilliums are in bloom and I would like to share them with you. They are Wisconsin's State Flower and are a protected plant. They can be transplanted if they are in the path of road work. My Father-in-law was able to get these plants about 50 years ago at a road construction site and they are still doing well on the shadyside of our house.

Wisconsin school children picked the Wood Violet to be state flower in 1909, but it was not officially designated the state flower until 1949. They chose a flower that thrived in the state’s wet climate and woodland environment. Across the state, the Wood Violet flowers from Racine to Milwaukee and from Madison to Green Bay. These flowers actually grow in all but four of the state’s numerous counties.

For most Wisconsin residents, the Wood Violet signifies something more than popularity: it harkens the long-awaited return of spring. Come February, Violet flowers begin to unfold in the state’s wet woodlands and once snow-covered meadows. The low-growing plants spring up along roadsides, riverbeds and under tall trees.

The Wisconsin state flower consists of a long, slender stem and five purple petals. The upper petals are generally a deeper shade of purple than the other three. The two lower petals are separated by a third, broader petal upon which pollinators land.

Did you know Wisconsin residents admired the Wood Violet long before it was officially designated the state flower? Pictures of it appeared on a state stamp in 1848 – a century before its official designation. With all that it has going for it, not to mention its common presence, chances are the Wood Violet will continue to be the state’s favorite flower for many years to come.
