Hello, Everyone,

Happy Earth Day. It’s a gorgeous day, but only 37 degrees, feeling like 30.

So yesterday was my visit to the dealership to get the oil changed and the car inspected.

Even though the dealership is under new ownership, the same friendly service people were there with masks and gloves on. The service department has always been and still is friendly and efficient.

The waiting room was not the clean place it used to be …maybe it was because there was some renovation going on, but if you are going to be open for service in the time of a pandemic, it behooves you to keep the waiting room clean. Chairs and tables were dusty. Obviously there were no mandatory cleaning/sanitizing rules being followed. It was freezing cold in there, too. I was getting more and more uncomfortable as time passed. When I first got there, there was only one other customer, and by the time I left, there were only 5 others waiting…all were masked and sitting away from everyone else.

In the far corner of the showroom, someone was talking to a group who were probably salesmen. The person speaking was not masked and was not following social distancing as he was coming close to the seated personnel as he was giving his talk. Not many of those listening had masks on either.

So, I asked someone passing by, who the speaker was and…. I had a feeling…sure enough, he’s the new owner, setting a great example for his staff by not paying any attention to the pandemic cautions. Oh, wow! Hopefully when this crisis comes to an end, things will improve; if not, I may have to find a new Chevy dealership with which to do business. I can’t wait for them to send me the feedback email so I can critique my visit. Hee hee!

Adding more excitement to our lives, Monday our governor extended the “stay at home” order to at least May 8th (bad enough), but then yesterday this comes in the Patch:

“PENNSYLVANIA — The institute behind one of the leading models for predicting the impacts of the coronavirus has released new findings that indicate when states may be able to relax some aspects of social distancing implemented to curb the spread of the illness.

The findings, a state-by-state analysis, were prepared by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation and are based on estimates of when infections are predicted to drop below one per one million people in each state.

The study determines that some states may be ready to relax social distancing measures as early as May 4 provided "robust containment strategies" are implemented to prevent a second wave of infections.

The analysis shows that Pennsylvania may be ready to relax some measures a few weeks later, around the first of June. Nearby states — including New York, New Jersey, Connecticut — have the same predicted timeline. Some states likely won't be able to safely make changes until later than that, and should social distance for the better part of June, the model estimates.

Strategies for safely relaxing some social distancing include widely implemented testing, contact tracing and isolation of confirmed cases, and restricting large gatherings, the study said.”

JUNE??????? Oh, oh, oh….I think I’m getting a headache (under all this hair)…we are all going to be nuts by then, especially if there continues to be no disinfectant wipes and sprays available in the stores.

But then there are states who are opening up way too soon. Governors vs mayors. This is chaos!

Reuse, recycle, relax. This will end, but the Earth must go on forever!

No. No need. Dining out? Nope. Not really hungry. But we finally decided that our sweet tooths needed filling which lead us to the nearest grocery store and the purchase of a frozen Pepperidge Farms Coconut Cream Cake. Oh, yes we did! Yum! So back at her house, we quickly cut the cake, gently warmed it in the microwave, and then we clicked on a new guilty TV pleasure--a show called My Feet Are Killing Me. Now, this is a show that is all at once fasinating and gory and not for the squimish or faint of heart. But between the "oohs", "ahhs", and "aacks", we watched ugly feet and gory foot surgeries while moaning over the creamy goodness of our cake.

Strange combinations, I know. But so much fun!

Anyway, we've all made it to another month....March! And that means "What?"

And so we patiently wait for it and while we wait, we pour......

...straight from the bean to the cup.

Enjoy this first day of March, Porchers! Enjoy the day. And have a great Sunday!

Lyds

I can still get the AARP games), and this is the first I've been able to give kudos and reply. Wish I knew why that happens, but at least I know that it will fix itself eventually after a few days. I had some funny wind photos from the other day when it was wild here, but the wind is gone and we are just cold this weekend with a warm up coming this week. I swear I saw a 70 somewhere in the forecast.

Hope everyone stays away from all viruses (both electronic and medical)!

From what I've looked at online, I think that's what is on my barberry bush. It does make sense since I have had a few mantis visitors in past years.

Took a photo, but it is not loading to my post. ARRGH!

Happy Primary morning at least here in Maine, 40* for the moment and sun slowly working it's way past 6 foot snowpiles.

Welcome Yooper, as in UP?

Land of pasties and dear god I need to cross that bridge, in 40' RV not during windy days.

Slowly working my way out the door to vote, and tomorrow is my final shopping run of the month.

Things learned after 30+ years in country, be prepared for stuff to happen. And have supplies on hand just in case.

About all I require presently is flour, sugar, yeast, etc.it won't be Jean Kay's but, gonna try for close second.🤣

Re: Viruses the electronic ones, they're still my bread and butter. The other ones are starting to screw up my supply chain, could be a reason I'm stocking up.

Enjoy all

Froze

Live where some TP is made, bought a pallet full for $5 in 2005.

It's the important stuff required coffee!

Hey @yooperyaya , seems to be pretty friendly folks here on this front porch. 😊

Haven't been around too much lately, but so many <STRIKE>trails</STRIKE> road traces, so little time. My bushwhacking partner and I are on a roll this winter. We have found 3 cemeteries in Shenandoah NP the NPS wanted to document, but could not locate. (Makes up for all those winters we couldn't find nada, that and a few more years of experience to sharpen the intuition and senses. 🧐)

But the truly exciting one was the cemetery I stumbled upon, that no one knew about, including the NPS! No reference to it found anywhere! Friend and I were following a road trace and trying to locate the old homesites found on a 1937 USGS map, when we decided to follow a fork in the trace. She went further up the road and I went to explore a promising looking knoll, which looked less promising as I approached, when I spotted what appeared to be 2 flat stones sticking up about 50' off to my left. Most of the time, they always turn out to be plain old rocks, but it beared checking out. YES! It WAS a cemetery. The two stones seen here --

(The sun was coming down, but see the deer antlers on the right?) And when I looked around I noticed more rows of smaller fieldstones, clearly marking head- and footstones. But if there was any doubt this was a cemetery, found this broken one partially covered in leaves and dirt under a tree.

The only inscribed stone. (Most family plots didn't bother with inscriptions, because they knew where Uncle Joe or Grandma were buried.) It was missing a piece showing the first name (???RY), but the two pieces showed SHIFLET died in 1868,. We rooted around in the leaves looking for the piece, but no luck and we respectfully put the pieces back where and how we found them and recovered with leaves (also helps to protect them).

Research showed up little results on who it was and my friend checked with her contact at the NPS and that's when we found out they didn't even know about it. So I will get full credit for discovering it. No, no plaque or anything 🤣, just a blurb in their records, but I am pretty excited.

Off tomorrow on another gallivant to find another cemetery the NPS hasn't been able to locate. Just 2 graves with fieldstones, but apparently not far from Skyline Drive, just really overgrown and hard to find. But we got the mojo going this year, so we're gonna keep pushing it. 😁

Stay high, dry, and warm, everyone!

@catwoman500, congratulations on your ACE badge!

It certainly is fun and interesting to explore old historical and abandoned places. I live in the middle of Civil War country, so I have also thoroughly explored the battlefields and associated sites. The backstories and seeing remnants of what once was is fascinating.

Unfortunately, we were unable to locate the two graves yesterday, but we did find what was left of a double house with breezeway (long gone). However, the bushwhack was full of undergrowth and briars. I was exhausted doing battle with pesky thorns and fallen trees and vines and my hands are shredded with tiny scratches. But all in good fun and adventure! 😁

I used to love walking in the woods and climbing over stuff. Once when I was a teen, a friend and I were walking in Valley Forge and we ended up climbing down the side of a cliff type hill and had no clue where we were. We kept walking and eventually found a road that was like 2 hill levels below where we started, but we did end up finding our way back. That kind of stuff always appealed to me, and you finding all that historical evidence is even better than just walking. All we found were some quartz stones.
