Concert memories

Not sure why this came to mind, perhaps Burning Man 2023 events, but got to thinking of my own memorable concert experiences and thought it'd be great to read others...

I'll start:

Very first without parents (although they dropped us off and picked us up right in front; you could do that then): CCR (Creedance Clearwater Revival) - Municipal Auditorium - KCMO - 1967 (age 13)

Lost memories: Joe Walsh in Texas: ROADTRIP! Pulled into rest stop; awoke to the biggest fing mosquitoes EVER invading the van.

One of the best: Rod Stewart while I was 8 months preggo; the bottles roamed row-to-row; obviously pre-major contagious diseases; dude did probably 20 costume changes; AMAZING!

Ozzy: Denver, enough said....

Prince: soft opening 1999 club at the RIO; omfg; this is the sexiest man alive or otherwise

The Killers: return to the start at Sam's Town

and throughout it all, our captain, and constant, Jimmy Buffett; so many appearances, so many uplifting experiences...

Nice trip down memory lane! I can seem to envision it, too. You've been to some great shows.

Let's see, I've been to several shows/concerts in my lifetime, my first being, 'The Greg Kihn Band,' and 'Rick Springfield' (1982, Wichita, KS). I went with my friend Robin, and her family. We watched the concert through binoculars, and I swore to Robin that 'Rick was looking right at me.' She's like, 'No, he's not Kelly.' (secretly, I still believe to this day that he was, not because I was a beautiful redheaded 11 year old, but probably because I was holding up these huge binoculars the size of Texas, and he could see them from the stage. Let me tell ya, I could see those blue eyes as clear as day through those binoculars). Then, we went to Pizza Hut, and played Rick Springfield on the jukebox. Good times.

From there, I've seen: The Cranberries and Duran Duran ('93 Huntsville, AL), Depeche Mode ('94 Atlanta, GA), The Jim Rose Circus and Nine Inch Nails ('95, Tennessee), The Cure ('96 Orlando, FL), The Cure (2000, West Palm Beach, FL), The Cure/Curiosa Festival Tour (2004, West Palm Beach, FL), Queens of the Stone Age and Nine Inch Nails (2005, St. Pete Times Forum, FL), and Keane (2005, Ft. Lauderdale, FL). Oops! Forgot another show in 2005...Bauhaus (2005, House of Blues, Lake Buena Vista, FL). Since 2005, I've only been to very small venues, nothing to write about here! 😉

From this recap, I just told my husband... I think we need to go to a concert soon! 😳

He agreed. 😂

OMGoodness, Kelly! You reminded me of one of the best shows I had the privilege to be at - NIN at The Joint in Hard Rock Vegas back in maybe 2013 (?)... one of the most immersive and astounding experiences EVER (even more so than The Who at Arrowhead in KCMO in the late 80s)!

There are lots of memorable concert stories I could recount, but one sprang immediately to mind as I was reading the Intro. I chaperoned a tweenager at a Weird Al concert...I was only invited because of age restrictions at the concert venue that required anybody under the age of 16 to be accompanied by an adult.

Anyway, it was an eye-opening (and ear-opening) experience for me. It was more like a Frank Zappa show than The Dr. Demento Show....Thoroughly enjoyable.
