I am 68; less healthy than I used to be; and worth less than I used to be.

I did have Wisconsin Badger Care and Medicare a, b, and d.

Recently, I did a renewal and I am NO LONGER eligible for Badger Care because my assets (less than $3,000) are 'too high'.

Now I have NO dental or eye coverage.

THIS seems ludicrous. As we age our eyes and teeth and hearing worsen. It's a given!

I want to write to whom ever I can in local (state) government but - need to know who.

I can manage but I can't imagine the 1000s of people that are affected by this.

Seniors who have paid a life time of 'dues'.

Help.

@anmcguire

Yes, since we are no longer under a public health emergency, the rules did change and yes, a lot of elderly are no longer covered by the Medicaid plan that they were on and got dropped when recertification happened. The big COLA that came along also has played apart in pushing income levels up over the eligibility of Medicare with Medicaid.

Wisconsin has a lot of different Medicaid programs for various population types.

Wisconsin.gov Medicaid - Programs for Older Adults

The $ 3000 asset limit seems to be the one for Medicaid for the Elderly, Blind, or Disabled. I assume this is what you are referring to:

Wisconsin.gov Medicaid for Older adults

Read specifically under the heading of “Wisconsin Medicaid for the Elderly, Blind, or Disabled Eligibility Criteria” Financial Requirements

and make sure you are counting your assets correctly - like your home.

There are other Medicaid programs specific to those on Medicare that help in other ways - I assume that you are on Social Security Retirement and NOT Supplemental Security Income since you have Medicare -

IF now you are having to pay your Part B premiums out of your benefits, there is a Medicare Savings Program that has a higher resource limit that will pay some of the cost of Medicare for you depending on the program that you qualify for under the Medicare Savings Program. But this won’t give you dental or eye coverage since Traditional Medicare does not cover these things. But these programs could free up some of your funds if you are now paying these premiums out of pocket.

Medicare.gov- Medicare Savings Programs

There is a button on this federal Medicare page that will take you to your states’ page for more info.

You need to talk to somebody in Wisconsin about your particular situation. May I suggest one of the following:

Wisconsin State Health Insurance Program (SHIP) advisors

Contact info: https://www.cms.gov/contacts/wi-state-health-ins-assist-program-ship/general-beneficiary-contact/1562256

The Wisconsin Medicaid Office(Dept of Health Services)

https://www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/contacts.htm

A local licensed Medicare plan broker who works for many companies, has been in business for a good while also might be able to help you with a Medicare Advantage or perhaps a Special Needs Plan.

Medicare Special Needs Plans

So check to see if you have the best possible plan for your needs in your state and location.
