      <description>&lt;P&gt;&lt;a href="https://community.aarp.org/t5/user/viewprofilepage/user-id/32699552"&gt;@SummerOnTheWay1&lt;/a&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;It use to happen a lot more with folks for whom the Government Pension Offset (GPO) or the Windfall Elimination Provision reduced their Social Security benefit.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;But that is not the case anymore since Congress eliminated both of these with the Social Security Fairness Act at the end of last year.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Now with the added Social Security benefit these folks are now getting, they find themselves on the other end of the equation - depending on their adjusted amount and any back payment,&lt;/P&gt;&lt;UL&gt;&lt;LI&gt;They may have to pay a higher Part B premium if the IRMAA begins to affect them and their income. &amp;nbsp;&lt;/LI&gt;&lt;LI&gt;They may also own taxes on their benefits - or much more taxes on their benefits&lt;/LI&gt;&lt;LI&gt;then there is the group where they are losing their Medicare Savings Program and are now having to pay the Part B premium for the 1st time.&lt;/LI&gt;&lt;LI&gt;And/or they maybe losing their Medicaid that works with their Medicare&lt;/LI&gt;&lt;/UL&gt;&lt;P&gt;Always got to look out for those unintended consequences with one gets a windfall/&lt;/P&gt;</description>
