The Treasury Department is kissing the penny goodbye. The five-cent coin might follow suit.

The U.S. Treasury Department recently ordered its last round of penny blanks — flat metal discs that get turned into coins — and said it will not put any more pennies into circulation after that batch is made.

Why kill the penny? Because pennies cost a lot of money to make and distribute — 3.69 cents per coin, to be exact. And the U.S. issued more than 3.2 billion pennies during the 2024 fiscal year, according to the U.S. Mint, at a reported loss of around $85.3 million.

Me, nope as thankfully I DO NOT have alot, thanks to using my DEBIT CARD & not cash. 🙃

I have about maybe 20 or less from the odd times I bought ONE item from Dollar Tree over the years.

Lol, maybe I need to check to see IF any are worth anything.

Hmmm, nickels. Not sure why but I guess they have their reasons.

Personally I will NOT miss the pennies.

It's going to be a long time before we don't have penny's. No telling how many are in use, in the billions I would guess.

Coin usage as a whole are going by the wayside. The use of plastic and just about everything in vending machines cost 1*2 dollars and the machines take plastic. Each year the Salivation Army is putting more card readers on their kettles because people not carrying money.

We use to save our change all year and at Christmas give it to a toy drive. Use to always have a jar full. We don't even have the jar anymore.
