Fake Microsoft warning pop up

Has anyone else dealt with their elderly parent almost falling for a fake Microsoft scam? My dad (78) called me absolutely terrified last year — his screen had locked up with a blaring alarm and a message saying Microsoft had detected a virus and he needed to call a number immediately. He was seconds away from calling it. I got there just in time and explained it was a scam, but he was shaken for days.

After that I installed a Chrome extension called Adless on his computer. It blocks the websites that generate those fake Microsoft warnings before they even load — so the scary screen never appears in the first place. He hasn't had a single one since. Setup took two minutes and he doesn't have to do anything himself. It just runs quietly in the background.

Used what? The extension? I always use Chrome extensions that are blocking ads and stop tracking me when I browse.

Yes, Getting extensions via sources like chrome. Yep. Trusted sources only.

Exactly, always install it from trusted sources. Phishing sites are everywhere now, it's so scary! Do you have any other recommendations in terms of extensions?
