As AT&T marches across the country abandoning land lines, they are doing so using an approval from the FCC based on witheld information.

This information is what is typically called a "smoking gun" when American Companies stretch or ignore the full truth that affects particular classes of Americans, and get caught doing so

.

In this case the class of Americans that are most at risk and most affected are older Americans. By their own statistics, AT&T says there are around (only) 6 million people that are resisting giving up their land lines. However most if not all of these are seniors who, at the heart of their resistance, hold the always available feature of their phones as important. That feature provides ALWAYS present 911 service, and allows them access to contact or be contacted by family and friends 24/7/365.

The witheld information by AT&T is that while they are abandoning land line serevice over those "nasty old copper lines", they are rolling out a Fiber Optic Internet serice, that uses those same "nasty old copper lines", to connect their Fiber Optic product to customer's homes.

They even have developed an acronym for this method called FTTN.(Fiber to the NODE) It first was refferred to as FTTC and FTTN (Fiber.to the Corner and Fiber to the Neighborhood). But the whole truth, that was witheld from the FCC. is that this mainly used method of delivering this new Fiber Optic product, is to establish a NODE in neighborhoods that their Fiber Optic is connected to, and from there to housholds, USES THOSSE SAME 'NASTY OLD COPPER LINES" that are currently used to provided land line service to the homes of their customers.

If you challenge AT&T with this info, they have no choice but to admit it. They will even tell you that "some day" they will come back and bring the Fiber lines clear to the homes. Even in a best case scenario, if this information were included in their application, they likely would have been told they could not remove land line service until that fiber connection directly to the home, for land line customer's use.

In any case, they did not give this information to the FCC in their application to discontinue service. And, in the spirit of the AARP motto of

"AARP Fights for You

We are your fierce defender on the issues that matter to people 50-plus"

AARP should be stepping up to ensure that this witheld information by AT&T is understood and included in the FCC authorization to abandon land lines on it's members.

California has used the courts to limit and or eliminate AT&T from abandoning service, however if a citizen wants to file a formal complaint it costs you about $600 bucks.

These are all JUST DOCUMENTED FACTS that you can check out, and AARP should be following up on to continue their committment of :

"We are your fierce defender on the issues that matter to people 50-plus"

The hell they are going to lay fiber optic the same day, even my internet provider refused to bury the cable on my property. AT&T has a box at the corner of my property, I believe it is still copper. When my ISP came in, they made sure to cut the copper wiring, to insure it could not be easily hooked up again.

911 is not your taxi service to the hospital, so I was told by my local fire station.

Never Dial 911, thatr means you! ...
