I agree with other AARP members on here. I've called their various 800 numbers and even contacted the board of directors by email but to no avail. No response. I have also written to the board members by snail mail but also no response. My guess is that they are too removed from the actual day-day experiences of us older people to really care who we are and what we need from them. I've been an AARP member for as long as the organization has existed but that makes no difference either.

Does anyone know who is the face of AARP? AARP is designed to be an interest group for americans age of fifty and older. I have been a mber for around ten years yet I have no idea how to contact AARP executives or know what their priorities are? Social Security is a top priority for most of us but I have never seen an AARP representative on the news communicating our goal and interest. Why?

If anyone knows how we can find out what the AARP leaders priorities are for 2025 or how to reach out to them I would appreciate it. Below is some information I found online but know way to message them.

AARP CEO: Dr. Myechia Minter-Jordan

Subsidiaries

AARP Foundation

AARP Services Inc

Legal Counsel for the Elderly

OATS/Senior Planet

Wish of a Lifetime

AARP Board of Directors

https://www.aarp.org › about-aarp › board-of-directors

Lloyd E.

I tried emailing the names listed on the article about the new CEO. No reply. Then I noticed a few days later they removed the section on the article for comments. I guess they don't want the CEO to hear from members.

Unfortunately I think you are correct. I don't think the current AARP has our interest in mind. They are too well paid to share our interest. As members we have the right to call a special meeting to address our concerns with the board.

To challenge a nonprofit board, first try to address concerns internally by raising issues directly with the board chair or relevant committee, citing specific concerns and referencing the organization's rules; if that fails, you can document issues thoroughly, gather support from other board members or stakeholders, and depending on the severity, consider consulting an attorney to explore further options like calling a special meeting to discuss the concerns or potentially initiating legal action based on alleged violations of policies, procedures or laws.
<DIV cases, depending on the organization's structure, you might reach out to key donors or supporters to express your concerns. <DIV And as technology advances at an ever-increasing pace, people are searching to understand how it will affect their day-to-day lives.

Despite these challenges, I feel optimistic. Thanks to the leadership of my predecessor, Jo Ann Jenkins, AARP is better prepared than ever to lead during this time of uncertainty as a wise friend and fierce defender of the needs and interests of people 50-plus.

I am determined to meet this moment. In many ways, I feel like my life and career have prepared me for it. For as long as I can remember, my parents have instilled in me the importance of giving back through service to others, especially those less fortunate. That is what led me to become a physician and to leave academic clinical medicine at Johns Hopkins to lead the Dimock Center in Boston, which serves many of the city’s poorest and most vulnerable residents. During my time at Dimock and later at the CareQuest Institute for Oral Health, I learned the incredible power of community engagement to transform health care.

It’s also what led me to pursue my MBA at Johns Hopkins. I loved helping my patients, and I realized I could have much broader impact by finding innovative ways to improve and transform health systems to deliver better care and reach more people, incorporating all aspects of physical and mental health.

AARP has a distinguished history of changing lives of individuals for the better and improving the programs that help them as they age, such as Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. There is still more to do to build on that legacy.

As I lead AARP into this new year and beyond, I assure you that we will use the power of our collective voice and the strength of our numbers to provide you with valuable information and resources, advocate for your needs and interests, and drive market-changing products and services that empower you to live better as you age.

AARP founder Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus wrote, “Whatever many may say about the future, it is ours, not only that it may happen to us, but it is in part made by us.” As we shape this future, we will strive to have a positive impact on people’s health, wealth and wellness as we make aging better for everyone.

I look forward to our journey together."

-----------------------------------------------------------------

🤔 This also appears in the paper mailing of - AARP Bulletin - Jan - Feb 2025 ;

or online -----> https://www.aarp.org/publications/bulletins/aarp-bulletin-january-february-2025/

😎

I found out that AARP has state level leaders who can be found here https://states.aarp.org/. I emailed my state leadership last week and am still waiting for a reply. Please contact your state level leadership and inquire regarding the lack of national level leadership and visibility. Here is the email I sent:

Hello Cathy,

Based on the AARP Minnesota website it describes the following priorities for 2025 as the following:

Address the Growing Fraud Crisis By Creating a Fraud Restitution Fund

Provide Assisted Living Protections to Older Residents in Public Housing

Make Aging a Strategic Priority for the State of MN

Expand Affordable Housing Options

Please let me know how these priorities are determined? Why post only the problem without recommended solutions AARP members could help support?

Anyone can go to the legislature and complain, what we need are solutions to fight for.

I recommend we prioritize the following for 2025:

Identify and promote a national leader who is visible. We need someone who is willing to go on all news outlets weekly (Online, TV, Radio etc.) and fight/promote solutions that impact retires.

AARP should create or join with a non-profit Insurance company that provides coverage for health, auto and home. Health should be the priority. With 38 million members this should be a profitable competitor to for-profit insurance.

Getting small discounts from partnerships with for-profit insurance companies does little to help seniors save on the outrageous cost increases.

Identify which bills AARP is supporting that would protect Social Security and keep it solvent.

Please review the following https://community.aarp.org/t5/Social-Security/A-solution-to-keep-Social-Security-solvent/m-p/2585250#M5943

I personally prefer Robert Reich recommendations on how addressing social security 3 Easy Fixes for Social Security & Medicare | Robert Reich

Raise the cap on income subject to social security taxes. This would impact upper income people of which I am one.

Allow young legal immigrants to enter the country so they can pay into the system as the current population gets older.

Promote the S.393 - Social Security Expansion Act S.393 - 118th Congress (2023-2024): Social Security Expansion Act

The NRA only has around 5 million members but you hear about them daily. AARP has 38 million and I never hear about our priorities in the national, state or local news.

Sincerely

Retired AARP Member

Apparently they dont care what the members think. Probably just as corrupt as the politicians and healthcare executives.

I haven't been able to redeem my points for rewards since late November. I've reported the problem and every time I follow up with them , I get the same answer, we're working on the issue and the problem is being researched in the tech department and they will contact you...Well 23 days later, nothing and on 1/1/26 I'm going to have close to 55,000 points expire! How come I can't get in touch directly with tech support ?
