How hard is to change my marital status on SSA?

I accidently put "never married" when i applied my benefit last year.

I thought i was going to divorce but not anymore.

How can i change the marital status on SSA?

If you chose never married when you applied but you were married at that time, then you entered false information.

Do you have an online Social Security account? Have you gone there and looked at what you can do? Be sure to look at FAQs.

🤓- Whoops - don’t know how you would do it but they still have a record from the other party - although it might be a bit hard for the other party to get benefits off your record if they ever need to do that.

The question was “never married” not married and divorced since divorced spouses under some situations can draw benefit from your record.

Maybe schedule an appointment with your local SS office and take your marriage certificate and then come clean as to your [accidental] error. Might want you to bring the other half of the couple too - just for back up.

I don’t think you can do it online in your SS account because most times marital status would indicate a name change and I don’t think you can do that online for logical reasons because it involves getting a new card with the new name.
