Do I have to include deceased ex-husband in my SS Application?

We weren't married long enough for me to expect any money from his earnings (3 years at most). It's going to hold up me applying for my OWN benefits! How can I get his Social Security number? All I have is our divorce decree. Will I get denied if I don't include this marriage? They can see it in my earnings when I carried his last name.

You weren’t married long enough to have any claim to any of his benefits -

You don’t need his SS # - because you are only filing for your own benefits.

Gail - you should work for SS! I was able to get someone from on the phone today and she said the same thing. I knew I wasn't eligible, but didn't have any way to tell SS that. I was afraid to leave any part of the application blank. My only suggestion would be to put that kind of information IN the instructions it would save them phone calls and the person applying any undue stress!! God bless you and thank you for your reply!
