Redeming AARP Rewards on Gift Cards

I just joined AARP and I to am able to earn points but can't use them nor can I purchase a gift card. I chatted with someone 3 weeks ago, last week I talked with someone from the community care team and customer service today. I'm surprised with this issue happening so often, this has not been fixed internally.

Anyway, I was told that when using your points, you can only use points to get 3 gift cards per month. But I was also told that you can only get one of each gift card then that's it. Is that true? So, if I use my reward points to get a Kohl's $5 gift card, am I done with Kohl's? I can never get another Kohl's gift card using reward points again?? My plan was to get one $5 Kohls gift card each month so by the end of next year I could atleast get 1 thing nice at Kohls. Can someone give me some clarity on that?

Ray @RayB618379 , as far as NOT being able to "redeem" ONLY earn, I had the SAME issue May 16, 2025 when I "joined" the AARP Rewards Program. It was "fixed" June 7, 2025.

Keep "trying" to redeem as mine was fixed BEFORE the AARP IT Team sent me an "email" telling me it was fixed.

Welcome to AARP. I hope they get your account working soon so that you may enjoy the gift card benefits. Regarding redemptions, you are correct in that you can use points to get up to 3 gift cards per month. If you try to get another one it will prompt you that you have reached your limit for the month.

Regarding the number of gift cards, you will be happy to know that it is only limited to one redemption for a SPECIFIC instance of a gift card posting. For example, there could be 2 Kohls gift cards posted and you could get one of each. Then you could wait and if during the month another Kohls gift card gets posted you could get that one as your third one for the month. The next month theoretically you could get 3 more Kohls gift cards (if they post that many). If you happen to click on a SPECIFIC gift card posting that you have already gotten it will pop up and tell you that you are limited to one. Hope this helps.

Thank, I hope I'm able to get multiple Kohls. I can use them to get my grandkids legos and other toys from there for gifts plus get that Kohls cash. Really saves me some money.

Ray @RayB618379 , on the 1st of EACH MONTH, there will be "extra credit" activities to earn cards. Usually there is one for KOHL.

And there are "usually" 3 OTHER Kohl's cards EACH month.

So you should be able to "snag" 3 EACH MONTH my friend. 🤞

Just a warning. I think Kohls only allows you to use up to 4 gift cards per purchase. Many but not all stores have a limit on how many gift cards you can use per purchase

And "sometimes" Ray @RayB618379 , there are DIFFERENT "rules" for In-store or Online Purchases. Maybe CALL your "local" Kohl's or their website number to ask.

GREAT tip @shamit , lol - I completely FORGOT that. In fact I need to make some "time" to do this myself - check the limits on Panera, Bath & Body Works, Walgreens, Staples & Jersey Mike's. Will be doing ONLY in-store purchases. NO "online" or deliveries for me.

I wish they had it like amazon or Starbucks where you can combine all the gift cards into one. I ran into the same issue with Apple. One of my credit cards gave me $25 gift cards to apple. unfortunately they only gave them in $25 denominations. One time I got 10 $25 gift cards and called them, that's when I found out they only give out $25 ones. Apple will take up to 8 I believe.

The Harry and David group, there are about 8 in the group, they told me if you order online you can use one but if you call in your order you can use as many as you have. With that group, with AARP, you can only earn one of each brand (Harry and David, 1-800 flowers, Shari’s berries, etc) maybe for life but might be a time like one year

Don’t trust the kohl’s call center to steer you correctly. I asked them if I was not yet a “member”, but made a purchase and the same day after my purchase, I decided to join, would my purchase that day be counted? Emphatic YES from chat rep, even told me they had a special form to fill out. Long story short they did not honor this request, I even cut and pasted the chat to prove what was told to me, they would not honor it. I joined but did not get that $80 credit ($100 purchase gives you a $5 reward). They did give me a $5 birthday reward but not the spend reward. They lost a customer with the lies their rep told me.

Lol @BtW751689 , your explanation makes sense as Shari (2 cards) & 1-800 Flowers (2 cards) have been SITTING on the AARP Rewards Site "forever". I was wondering why, now I know why = members who WANT them (not me) can ONLY get "one" in their lifetime. Geez!!! 🙄

THE TWO KOHLS GIFT CARDS HAVE TO BE FOR DIFFERENT AMOUNT OF POINTS, If one is 20,000 & the other 25,000 points then YES you can redeem for both. IF purchases are limited to one & you redeem for it @ 20,000 points as long as the card is @ 20,000 points you will NOT EVER GET THAT CARD AGAIN, NOT EVEN WHEN THE COWS COME HOME.

AARP rewards program rules are stupid, confusing, ridiculous, frustrating, forever changing (not in a good way) & of course they ONLY benefit MERKLE’S bottom line.

Merkle Inc. (formerly known as HelloWorld) is the primary third-party technology partner and fulfillment vendor that actually builds, maintains, and runs the AARP Rewards program.

While AARP owns and holds ultimate responsibility for the program, Merkle operates the machinery behind the scenes.

I have never experienced that issue. Just this month I was able to get 3 x Home Depot on day 1 and all were for the same amount. Copied from my redemption history:

I have been buying from the Popcorn Factory (part of Harry and David) and a couple others for a few years now and it has always been limited to 2 gift cards, not one. They re-organized their website so they are all under HarryandDavid.com as of about 7/1/26 but I don't think the number of accepted cards has changed. I redeemed just after that time and used 2.

The "Gift Card" that threw me off was FTD $10 Gift Card. I got three thinking I could get $30 off a purchase, but when I went to use them, it turns out they are not gift cards, but PROMO CODES. That mostly makes them useless since you only get to use one PROMO CODE per purchase and the standard AARP PROMO CODE is for 30% off at FTD, so you would always use that instead (for any purchase over about $35). But what I found it useful for was buying the free annual shipping pass since the AARP promo code does not work for that, but these seem to. My notes to myself (so I remember what to do each year): Promo Code GCFYHK3W4N: This one used 11/17/25 to renew FTD Plus (free shipping). $39.99 regular. Search FTD from AARP to get link for $24.99 FTD Plus. Then use one of these codes to get another $10 off, so $14.99.
