December 7 is 'National Slime Day' at National Day Calendar and things are about to get slippery for the rest of the day. Today's National Day celebrates the slimy, slippery, and squishy pop culture goo that has been engaging kids (and adults) in play since the 1970s.

Slime seems to capture the curiosity of children everywhere. If we are being honest, it also catches the curiosity of adults, too. In fact, slime is considered to be a favorite toy in many households. It seems people everywhere around the world are fascinated with slime.

What is slime? Well, technically speaking, slime is neither a solid or liquid. It's both. Scientifically, slime is considered to be a non-Newtonian fluid, meaning the polymers in slime change depending on pressure. Without revisiting science class to learn about Newtons Law (again), we will summarize. Newtons Law relates to how an object moves or reacts to force or pressure. In other words, slime feels like a liquid until you begin to move it, then it turns into a soft solid. Maybe.

CELEBRATION SLIME | 15 MIN | PREP | DO NOT EAT

INGREDIENTS

╰┈➤ 8 ounce bottle of white Elmer's glue
╰┈➤ Food coloring
╰┈➤ 1 tablespoon of baking soda
╰┈➤ 1-1/2 tablespoons of contact lens solution/saline solution.
[HINT: You might need to use a little more, so keep it handy just in case. Add a 1/2 teaspoon each time until you get the right consistency.]
╰┈➤ A medium glass mixing bowl

DIRECTIONS

╰┈➤ Add glue to bowl and 1-2 drops of your favorite food coloring color.
╰┈➤ Blend until completely combined.
╰┈➤ Add baking soda and blend again.
╰┈➤ Add contact lens solution/saline solution.
╰┈➤ Blend into thick consistency. If your mixture is too sticky,

add a 1/2 teaspoon of saline until you reach the right texture.
╰┈➤ The more saline you add, the thicker it will become.
╰┈➤ Plop the mixture onto a surface and knead it like bread.

You're done! Store is a airtight container until the next time you want to play with your slime.
