(1 comment) We all have causes that are important to us, and choosing to donate to a charity in someone's name is a great way to honor their memory.

Well I do remember John everyday. It’s hard not to.

The biggest way I honor him is thru music. I dedicate favs of his on the radio for those important anniversaries.I even played a couple of his favorite songs at his funeral. A friend of mine took pillows

and covered them with his flannel shirts and embroidered his name on there. I gave them to my sons and grandkids. I also made a picture for all of them after finding pics of them with him when they were little. Bought personalized frames. That was for the first Christmas. I always send a poem on his birthday and the anniversary of his death to my kids. I also gave all of them a small urn of his ashes to keep. His spirit is alive in them and I want to keep that going 😢

I continue to honor John thru music. I play the songs that meant so much to us and remind me of him. This is a painful thing to do but important for me to do. And we all eat a peanut butter tasty cake on his death anniversary. Lol they were his favorite 💜

I, too, have begun to listen to the music my husband & I danced to. The memories make me sad and happy. I laugh at some of the silly words in the songs that we loved so much. We grew up together in a small town and dances at the school gym happened every weekend which we loved. Good memories.

Yes, I keep a daily journal, and a prayer journal that I am leaving to my children grandchildren and great-grandchildren. I have about 8 years of hand written journals for them to go through to see prayers that have been answered prayers that I pray for them what was going on in my day. Also a bunch of silly stuff I have a cedar chest full of boxes silly things but I want them to laugh and I wanted to spark memories. My celebration of life is for everyone to go play bingo because my daughter used to be a caller my late husband used to win when she would call and my whole family during reunions we with they are to go to bingo take lots of snacks and share the silly stories of their grandma

I try to do it by helping their memory to stay alive even to those family members that never knew them.

After my husband died and our 1st grandkid was born several years after, I decided to begin a “family tree” but under a different concept. I bought up all of those little hanging frames that we see so often at Christmas for ornaments - concentrating more on the traditional type than the decorative aspect.

I filled these little frames with photos of those who are no longer with us - my husband, my mother and father, my late siblings and then I did the same with my husband’s family - going back as far as my memory and pictures would take me - Then I did the In Laws side of the family. Each Christmas, I gave my daughter these little photos and she in turn bought little Christmas trees to display them.

While we decorated the trees every year, my grandkids would say who these people were - they would remember the stories we told them about these people. They had never met them, but they knew them - and we had a living family tree of them.

Turned out to be one of the best things I ever did - I have finished all the old photos that I have - this has been going on for almost (15) years - and it is still a treat to display the family tree(s) every year - I hope my grandkids will continue it as they grow up and have their families.
