Where is the Voice of AARP on electronic scooters.

In our building of 118 senior units, every resident has a horror story. We cannot walk out the front door without being hit by or terrified by a passing scooter. Despite presence of special bike/scooter lanes, we have counted as many as 11 scooters on our side of the sidewalk in a single minute.

Even if a scooter rider wanted to stop, they cannot in a reasonable distance, and frankly, some treat it as a game--whack an old person. Those in wheelchairs or walkers cannot use the sidewalk due to parked or turned over scooters.

This problem is getting worse and worse. Orthopedists, Pediatricians, and ER Physicians are warning the public about this problem. Where is AARP?

Hi, Rick,

This is a very important post. Whether "scooters" refer to the little mini-bikes, mobility scooters or e-bikes, this is an issue becoming increasingly dangerous. Many communities are trying to address and should. I hope before it becomes another major traffic concern (like dwi/DUI). it can be addressed.

Hi, try contacting your states department of Motor Vehicles, as many states and localities have differing regulations on them. Or you can contact the Consumer Product and Safety Commission, and report safety concerns and incidents with SaferProducts.gov with them.

I agree they are getting out of hand.
