topic Database for tracking lost 401K account in General Help

I remember in a previous magazine article that AARP was working on creating a database to help locate lost 401K accounts. What is the status of this? If it is still in the works, where would someone go to try and find out more information about a possible lost 401K account? Would you try and contact the IRS or Social Security?

Thank you for your response

Jim Mueller

Thank you for reaching out, Jim. The lost-and found database mentioned in our article "5 Steps for Tracking Down Old 401(k)s and Other Lost Money" is from the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL). The online tool will help people find contact information for the plan administrators of past retirement accounts.
