Excellent.  I will try to read something of his.  I did read Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman decades ago in college.   I'll try to get another.   I've got so little time, and so many books to read, lol.

My son is reading young adult literature and there are several out now that are great.  I enjoy them as an adult:

Hi Nerdy Mom,

You can't be too nerdy if you are reading Adichie.  I am too jealous that you will be hearing her speak. I will have to read Alexie.  Right now I am on my way to my library to pick up Ernest Gaines "Love and Dust".  If you haven't read him, start off by reading his best - "Lesson Before Dying".

Thanks for the info about Alexie.

What list?

I will add.  And follow.  Especially if this becomes a thread of great books.

I'm rereading Purple Hibiscus now by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.  She's going to speak at a local high school in a couple of weeks.  I can't wait.

Any and everything by Sherman Alexie.  Blasphemy is a good start.

No DIversity in List

What about "The Bluest Eye" by Toni Morrison or "The Devil in a Blue Dress" by Walter Mosely?  There is certainly no book out there that explains the migration from South to North and West by descendants of slaves than "The Warmth of Other Suns" by Isabel Wilkerson. It is, or should be, still required reading of Alex Haley's "Malcom X", or any novel by Isabel Allende.  Who has not appreciated "Love in the Time of Cholera" or "One Hundred Years of Solitude" by Gabriel Garcia Martinez.  What about the writings of pre-and-post colonial Africa by Wole Soyinka or Chinua Achebe?

GREAT NOVELS COME FROM ALL CLASSES AND COLORS---WAKE UP, AARP!!!!!
