Losing a great star such as Powers Boothe was quite distrubing, as we were classmates at Southwest Texas State University (now known as Texas State). We each participated in several of the college productions and had some classes together. I have followedl his career ever since I saw the Jim Jones Tragedy, and have enjoyed each of his movie and TV roles. Other than acting in productions together in college, I have not had the opportunity to  visit with Powers, much to my sadness, but I'm sure we will meet up at that great theatre in the sky.

I'm stunned about Powers Boothe; 68 isn't old these days, and his Wikipedia listing just mentioned "natural causes" for his death. He's frozen in my mind as Jim Jones .. but that was 1980 & 37 years ago! It was nice to read that he was married to his college sweetheart since 1969 .. 48 years; pretty fantastic for Hollywood!

Chuck Barris, creator of 2 early 'reality' shows in the late 60's&early 70's has died at age 87.

He hosted the daytime version of the very strange"The Gong Show" '76-'78,contestants  with very little talent. There were 3 celebrity judges who rated the performances from 1-10,the worst performance got the Gong.

The other show was "The Newlywed Game"'67-'71 hosted by Bob Eubanks.Every week  4 couples who had been married for less than a yr appeared on the show, vying for the 'dream gift' usually furniture or appliances.

Chuck  wrote the song "Palisades Park' '62,for singer Freddie Cannon who had a big hit record

TV Stars We Lost in 2017 - Turner Classic Movies Host, Robert Osborne, 3/6/17

Message 9 of 26 (1,460 Views)

While Robert Osborne wasn't an actor, but the host of Turner Classic Movies, I thought a listing of his passing belonged here. He had been a columnist for The Hollywood Reporter, and wrote the official history of the Academy Awards. He left the air early last year, due to an undisclosed health issue, and passed away yesterday, 3/6/17, at age 84.
