Dear Oaklandpat:

These are criminals.  It doesn't matter and neither would they know or care that you are on a Do Not Call List.  If you get one of these calls, hang up the phone is the best defense.

I work for an accounting firm in NYC & as we tell our clients:

the IRS does not initiate first contact by phone, they just don't; nor do they threaten with jail, they don't do that either.

Legitimate IRS first contact is made by mail, then subsequent contact can be phone or fax, but they do not ever initiate contact by phone.

Nor do they ask for payment by wire, if that comes up it's NOT them.

Never pick-up a phone call if you don't know who it is!  My caller-is will say 'unavailable' or something like that.  Robot-calls never leave a message!  If you recognize the voice of the caller leaving the message, you can pick-up or just call them back.  That's what I do!

I'm same list. But now- though it's illegal- they call our cell. I installed a free "block call" app & it works great.

Who are the proper authorities to call.  One other scam I've been getting is telling me that my computer has been hacked.

These calls are so annoying...AND I am on a Do Not Call list.

Saw something the other day on Facebook that was something like this...answer the phone with Thanks for calling.  You're on the air"

In addition to the annoying telemarketers who I ignore, I too have received voicemail messages that clutter my mailbox and even dare to threaten me. I note their number, and answer when they invariably call back.

My only reply: "Do as you will. Your bluff is called; you lose.", and then, I hang up. They do not call back.

Got several last month from same source. Obviously robo caller. Threatened me with lawsuit. Got nasty about it. Reported it to Justice Dept.
