Re: PROTEST & REBELLION SONGS.."get it off your chest"

Message 11 of 278 (206 Views)

This might be a long one.

First to 'Look Over Yonder"

If you were wishing me a belated birthday, that was  back on 02/29/16

The next on will be on 02/29/20-   But thank you any way-   That made

my day  :-)

I can't help but to notice that your name is part of a song by Tommy

James and the shondells.   That was Crystal Blue Persuation.

Starts out

"Look over yonder

What do you see.

The sun is a'rising

most definitely....

And so on

Just thinking.........

I appreciate your import on the "Fortunate Son".  WOW.....

And to Gent2U..... Also awesum input about  'Chicken Hawk" and your

thought about who  'HAD' to do the fighting.  I Still miss people.

I believe that I have  "ALWAYS"  lived in a "Great America"

I do my best to support our "Commander in Chief"  and other

Law Makers.   But sometimes they are not right ! ! ! !

No matter what party they belong to

But I will always support those who protect us.

Police, Fire Dept. and those who have to rescue us.

And those who shall never be forgotten.  The men and

woman who served in the armed services to protect us.

And also the support for the familes of those who lost

a loved one in all the agencies.

Bless this country and all those who bellieve we are great

PEACE

@LookOverYonder @rc8149 In re "Fortunate Son" - hence the term Chicken Hawk. All for the fighting and gung ho - as long as someone else does the actual fighting.

To rc8149 (happy belated birthday?) :

Right On!

I add this.....these lyrics effectively point out the traitorous hypocricy of America's oligarchy as well. They wave the flag as they hire lawyers to hide their sickeningly glutonous wealth from the taxation which finances the war efforts which they capitalize upon and from which their military-aged progeny are protected.

Yeh, America's proletariat die fighting wars from which America's oligarchy profit while their own family members stay home safe.

It ain't right. On the face of it.

Fortuate Son shines a bright light on these inequities, from a soldier's point of view.

The Lyrics of Fortunate Son

Some folks are born, made to wave the flag
Ooh, they're red, white and blue
And when the band plays, 'Hail to the chief'
Ooh, they point the cannon at you, Lord

But it ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no senator's son, son
It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no fortunate one, no

Some folks are born with silver spoon in hand
Lord, don't they help themselves? Oh
But when the taxman come to the door
Lord, the house look like a rummage sale, yes

It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no millionaire's son, no, no
It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no fortunate one, no

Yeah, yeah, some folks inherit star spangled eyes
Ooh, they send you down to war, Lord
And when you ask them, how much should we give
Ooh, they only answer, more, more, more, yo

It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no military son, son, no
It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no fortunate one, no, no

It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no fortunate one, no, no, no
It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no fortunate son, son

    Fortunate Son     BY      C C R

The song spoke out against the Vietnam War-  BUT  was very supportive of the soldiers

fighting there.    As we all know most of the soldiers came from the working class (like

many of the CCR fans).  They did not have the connections that others in the Nixon circle

had, per John Forgety. The song was sung from a soldier's point of view, who had to fight

because he had no connections.    Thus the lyric,  "i'm not a Senators Son"

This song was performed by the group or the Ed Sullivan Show.    The show's producers

didn't catch it , like others that they made change lyrics.         Awesome......

Pray for PEACE    by   Reba McEntire

This is not a dramatic march on Washington Song.

It is relevant to the meaning of a "peacefull protest song"

It just shows that not all protest songs are about

breaking down the doors  (even thou that's  what we think at times.

Also might  sell more records)

Sometimes you get more with sugar than vinegar....

Thanks for listening

PEACE

Eddie Vedder also did a really good version. His voice registers the appropriate anger better than other versions I've heard.

Blessings to you.
