Didn't stop with the Sophists.  That sort of thing continued on into the Roman Empire and Machiavelli who wrote "The Prince".  "the donald" wrote "The Art of the Deal", so I'm told.  Although I'm a little unsure that he actually did.  Truth has little to do with the current crop of political manipulators in Washington.  Maybe we could get them banned.  Hey....that's an idea with legs.

I don't know about "MARXIMS" being "PROGRESSIVS" however, I do know and have posted the philosophy of Karl Marx and an objective look at them would indicate a similarity with the Progressive Movement philosophy.

If this merry go round is making you dizzy, there is really no need for you to ride. As I understand the rules, anyone can get off at any time.

Sophistry, Fox, Beck, Trump, cartoons - does any of this relate to how the Progressive Movement has taken the ideology of Karl Marx and updated it?

I noticed that there was a reference to Mondragon. What is overlooked and is key is that Mondragon was accomplished totally by the people, not "we the people" which is often translated to mean the State.

NEWS FLASH!!  Hillary was assisted by both the Washington Post and the New York Times, both during the primaries in sidetracking Bernie, and then during the general elections by pushing for her campaign.

Every network and even the print media has their commentators who comments and opinionizes on the news but is confused with news reporting.   But of course one doesn't have to listen to them since most everyone only hears or sees what they want to see and hear.  Even those on the liberal side of things.

Alferd is correct. Unfortunately most people have little comprehension of what is Socialism
There are examples of co-ops type of corporations that are successful. Again the Mondragon Experiment, they are still working fine and they have adapted to globalism in the way that they work.

We simply have a capitalistic system that rewards, lack of competetion.  high salaries for their executives and CEO's and their main philosophy is to reward their stockholders in order to make more money for their top people.
They take advantage of any laws that will provide them with more money and or assets, and of course the only ones that suffer with such a system are the poor workers of those corporations.
But, at the risk of being called a Marxist/Communist.  I will have to say, that it would behove us to take a look at all types of corporations and simply let those types of co-ops  flourish   Now we have gone back to monopolies, and they are growing and fast.  so what excuse will they have?

Sophistry - we have indeed seen it here...

Trump isn't a sophist - he's a shameless out-and-out liar.

But there are others who use fallacious reasoning to attempt to convince an unwary reader here that bad is good, up is down, and so forth...

Note - the cartoon doesn't illustrate sophistry

It illustrates just plain stupid conservative gullibility...

Rker-

Manipulation of the truth and out and out lying is the hallmark of FOX. You are correct there.

With regard to people not knowing what FOX is doing, many, many know.

An acquaintance gave one of her FOX following co-workers a challenge.  Turn off FOX and Limbaugh, and other RRW sites. Listen to or read ANY OTHER television, radio, newspaper. Come back in a week, we'll talk.

RESULT! The former FOX follower was devastated. She couldn't believe how she'd been duped.

When I shook my head over this, and wondered aloud how anyone could be that gullible, the aquaintance said to me, "If all you watched was FOX news and some of these other propaganda sites, you'd believe them too."

This is why those who spread the untruths you spoke of were banned. No matter where or when, these tactics are dangerous and poison the mind.
