@Fishslayer777–Or, and most probably,  because the NRA finances the campaigns of many, many Republicans.

Please show me where in the United States Constitution ANYONE is given the right to bear semi-automatic weapons??? This is NOT an effort to remove guns per se, it is an effort to remove guns that are capable of allowing for the murder of many in a very short period of time due to their capabilities.  To suggest anything else tells all one has bought into the scare tactics of the NRA, which has led this country to the killing field it has become.

With regard to infringement of rights—what about the SCORES of people—babies, little children, teenagers, and adults murdered by those using assault weapons??? Were their rights INFRINGED UPON???

BTW, do you think the writers of the Constitution knew we would some day have  access to automatic and semi-automatic weapons??

PROBABLY NOT!! That, fish, is why we have amendments to the Constitution.

Gee, I miss having a real president!

Well, yes and no. It is all about individual citizens wanting their rights protected. They look to the NRA to do that and the NRA uses money as a vehicle to protect those rights.

@Fishslayer777–We all are aware that the NRA makes huge contributions to Republican campaigns. It would be ignorant for any of us to think that those helped by the NRA and its gun lobby would vote against any gun control bills.

So, instead of asking sarcastically how we “are going to take guns away from  the bad guys,” maybe a discussion with regard to voting out those who accept money from the  gun lobby is in order, followed by a discussion of what loopholes need to be closed and what penal codes tightened, once we have elected officials who put the safety of Americans above their paychecks or office.

The NRA promotes gun ownership, gun safety, and council, but does not create crime stats. Just watching the news every night is enough for most sane people to want to protect themselves.

You wrong... again.

Our local sheriffs have joined together to promote gun ownership using statistics. The whole premise is when seconds count, LE is minutes away. We have the right to defend ourselves ... and adoption of the "castle doctrine" by many states suggests there is a need for the individuals, to have some form of protection. Some choose home alarms for the same reason.

So how would you get the bad guys to give up their guns? you know the illegal guns?
Mine are all legal.

People buy guns for many reasons - hunting, sport and contest shooting, self-defense, and even braggadocio. No one said anything about denying the right to defend one's self or one's property. I said that no one requires military grade weapons and ammo to do any of those things. No one questioned your guns are legal.

The fact remains, it's about money. Want proof?

Total spending by the gun rights lobby (all organizations) for 2017: $7.8m and change

2016: $10.5m +

2015: $11.4m +

2014: $12.0m +

2013: $15.2m +  (notice the steep climb post Sandy Hook, Dec 2012)

2012: $6.1m +

The NRA has spent more money lobbying Congress and federal agencies in the first two quarters of 2017 ($3.2m) than it did all of last year:

http://www.businessinsider.com/nra-spending-budget-lobbying-in-2017-2017-9

"In the first quarter of 2017, the group spent $2.3 million lobbying Congress and federal agencies. By the second quarter, that figure dropped to $920,000, a more typical sum for the organization."

Guns & Ammo annual revenue: $11b

The Texas mass murderer and Dylann Roof got their guns via the same poorly functioning NICS system loopholes as well as poorly crafted and inadequate laws and equally poorly crafted and inadequate application of law/regulation that allowed you to get yours - using the very same supposedly adequate controls - the mass murder weapons were at the time of purchase - all acquired "legally".

Existing laws are poorly crafted and inadequate in function.

In over a third of the nation, private seller and purchaser don't even have to ask and record each other's name  - a defect that needs fixing, just as inadequate reporting to the NICS database needs fixing...

Do you agree that the loopholes need to be completely plugged and the laws need to have all "wiggle room" completely removed?

wanna know who is wrong? you. the constitution can be changed. The NRA is like 2% of the population, and if we all joined it it could be overthrown.

as far as what the NRA advocates, need I post some NRA videos that promote civil war? whip up hate and division? this isnt the NRA of our youth. Its hateful, spiteful, self righteous, and arrogant. Listen to Wayne la whatever speak. besides, why do they say you need to carry a gun in church, but ban guns from anywhere ol Wayne speaks? surely there would be a good guy wth a gun to protect him. The organization itself is living proof a good guy with a gun isnt the answer.

So it begins.
