Re: Death Toll Triples in Puerto Rico - trump should be PROUD

Once again GOPers seek to invent an alternative history to disguise the consequences of their actions.

Puerto Rico became the home of a number of big pharmicutical plants when GOPers diddled the law so profits from overseas sales could be repatriated tax free.

Then the GOPers deregulated the banksters and they expanded their preditory lending Worldwide, including to Puerto Rico who used the sizable increase in their tax base from the new Big Pharma to justify increased borrowing. Its exactly the same thing that happened across the US with the preditory lending to home owners and to foreign governments that destroyed the economy in 2008.

But then the GOPers changed the law, eliminating the tax loophole for profits from PR, and Big Pharma closed shop and left Puerto Ricans with a drastically reduced tax base and no way to repay the preditory loans American Banksters had so eagerly approved for them for the preceding decade.

PR is a victim of Republican economic policy, and there's no "alternative reality" to explain otherwise.

I responded on this because Republicans need to try and comprehend how the world works:

Additionally, the focus on the "deaths" is important and here is why:

Death tolls are the primary way we understand the impact of a disaster. And for nearly two weeks after Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico, as a humanitarian crisis was intensifying, the death toll was frozen at 16.

“Sixteen people certified,” Trump said on October 3 during his visit to the island, repeating a figure confirmed by the territory’s governor. "Everybody watching can really be very proud of what's taken place in Puerto Rico."

It appears that some here seem to believe that any metric that could impact the lives of Americans needs to be held as low as possible, possibly because it is cheaper than way.

There is a silver lining. and that will be payback.

27,000 Puerto Ricans are now in Florida. and guess who are they planning on voting for in 2018?
Sorry Trump, but I have the feeling that you just lost Florida.

Maybe, they should take out their anger on their own politicans (Mayor). They're the ones who bankrupted the country.

It's always an eye-opening experience when ill-informed posters make silly comments like above.  Fang, do you have any idea why Puerto Rico is broke?  I didn't think so.....  Maybe you can start here:

Amazing!  Yes, the lies from the Conservatives is indeed, truly amazing.

Only the left celebrates tragedy created by a category 5 hurricane.  And only Conservatives would lie suggesting anyone was "celebrating".

That HATE has totally consumed your humanity. That Conservatives now think they can dictate how others feel.  Fascism sucks!!!  You and I have nothing in common.  Sure you both do; you just choose to ignore it.

GOP response:    But Donald went and tossed paper towels.

FEMA:  our mission is not to help people, so death is just part of our process     FEMA director just stopped a logistic expert from being detailed to PR.

Funding for PR disaster is quite different from funding from Harvey or Irma....PR will have to repay the money with interest.    That, folks is the Republican WAY - beat the down trodden with additional debt.   https://theintercept.com/2017/10/11/puerto-rico-relief-bill-cancels-16-billion-in-debt-but-not-for-p...

News from Bloomberg this AM:    From Mr. Compassion:

President Donald Trump on Thursday suggested his patience for helping fellow Americans in hurricane-ravaged Puerto Rico is running out and that he faults the U.S. territory’s management for its current conditions.

“We cannot keep FEMA, the Military & the First Responders, who have been amazing (under the most difficult circumstances) in P.R. forever!” Trump said on Twitter, citing a “total lack of accountability.”
