Better Care Reconciliation Act of 2017 Senate Bill Kept Secret

Message 1 of 1 (329 Views)

Now we know why the Better Care Reconciliation Act of 2017 Senate bill was kept in secret.

Behind closed doors they crafted a bill that would mean higher costs and less coverage for Americans, especially for people 50+.

Without any hearings or an open debate, they slipped in a number of provisions that would dramatically increase costs and risks for older Americans, including:

  • Allowing insurance companies to charge older Americans five times more for coverage than everyone else and reducing the tax credits that help them afford their coverage.
  • Cutting Medicaid, stripping away coverage from millions of Americans and leaving millions of seniors at risk of not getting the care they need.
  • Cutting funding for Medicare, leaving the door open to benefit cuts and Medicare vouchers.
  • Providing tens of billions in tax breaks for drug and insurance companies.

AARP will hold every Senator accountable for voting “YES” on a bill that will mean higher costs and less coverage for older Americans.
