Here's my two cents.

Of course, everyone has their likes and dislikes, but I found the below titles  entertaining. And that's what a good movie should be.

1. Cher: Live in Concert. At least for the amazing costumes  and spectacle. And if you're a Cher fan, it's awesome. Try watching it in surround sound.

2. Chasing Freedom: An excellent and sobering depiction of women's life under the Taliban and the frustration and disappointment encountered by one women upon her arrival in the U.S.

3. WWII Behind Closed Doors (2 discs). A behind the scenes look at the key players  involved in WWII and how their actions shaped the world for years after.

4. Tina Turner: One Last Time. At the age of 70, this lady continues to be the complete entertainer and what a set of legs!

5. Sunshine. The story of one family's struggle with anti-semitism, war and corruption in Hungary, over 3 generations.

6. Blindsight. This is an absorbing documentary about a group of blind tibetan children's attempts to climb a mountain near Mt. Everest. Very  Inspirational and emotional.

7. Taking Chance. An emotional and poignant story about a serviceman serving as the escort accompanying the remains of a fallen comrade home from Iraq. A profound and simple comment on the casualties of war.

Unless you don't like subtitles, I highly recommend Lives of Others. It won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film of 2007.

As I exited the theater after see this film, all around me people were praising the movie. My political leanings are much different, but William F. Buckley reported saying as he exited, " I think that this is the best movie I ever saw."

It has a 93% rating from Rotten Tomatoes and IMDB has it rated #56 on the list of the best 250 all-time movies.

Thanks Amy and Livvi, these are great suggestions! Now all that's missing is a bowl of popcorn

If you're like me, I'm still catching up on '08 and '09 releases but here are two recent rental stand-outs I can offer up:

1) The Bank Job. This crime thriller is based on a real-life London bank heist that took place in 1971. Of course there is good action surrounding the robbery itself, but the story actually takes an interesting turn after the robbery.

2) State of Play. This one is more of a political thriller, complete with familiar DC scenery. It features a strong cast of actors (Russell Crowe, Helen Mirren, and others), and goes inside a murder case that two investigative reporters are following.

I rented "An Education" the other day and found it pretty interesting! (The soundtrack with French songs by Madeleine Peyroux and other greats was fabulous as well.) I'm not sure if it started as a book, but it definitely played out like one. Thought-provoking themes on love, ethics, etc. You'll definitely want to discuss it after watching.

What Should I Add to My Netflix Queue?

I'm the type that's usually way behind on all the latest moves. With our Netflix subscription, we've gobbled up various television series such as Mad Men and The Tudors. What next? What movies have I missed that I must see?
