Re: Republican HealthCare Plan-- Where are the Protests from the AARP????

Message 1 of 22 (753 Views)

I just got more distortion of the facts in the form of a mailed piece of propoganda from AARP.  The fear tactic speaks loud and clear.   I can't even begin to guess what it must have cost to put this together in glossy stock and mail it to all AARP Members.  What happened to truth in America?  What happened to accurate reporting?  What happened to us that we can be thought of as so ignorant, that we don't deserve the truth.  This is disturbing on a very fundamental level.  Americans are on to you.  American values can not be blown up...distorted...or twisted.  The truth is all around us.  I'm sorry for all who cannot handle it, but there is no place to hide from it....

I think I'm going to send a link to this thread to my elected officials today, to show them that the AARP position is not necessarily representative of member opinion. Smiley Happy

Time to drop AARP.  Found out we can drop AARP and keep our vehicle insurance with Hartford - with no changes to the policy.  You only have to be a member to start your policy with Hartford, you do not have to continue with AARP.  Probably some of the health ins plans work the same way.

@CJ18, all:

I bought a lifetime membership, so instead of dropping that, I've opted to tweet, email, call and write my representatives. I'm having a great time with that ...  Smiley Happy

It is unfortunate that for all the good AARP does that it, as an organization, is in the pocket of the Democratic Party, while the majority of its membership is probably conservative.

Let's talk facts not opinion or use idiotic expressions such as if the Republicans let ObamaCare crash, they will be the "Party of Death" per Hillary Clinton and her band of Socialists. Reality - The Democrats pushed through a skeletal tax bill in 2010, the largest tax increase in U.S. history called the Affordable Care Act. Part of that bill included a government subsidized health insurance program which we have come to call ObamaCare. Recall that Nancy Pelosi said, "We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it." It was passed by the Democrats - not a single Republican voted for it. After it was passed, the Democrats filled in the missing pieces. From the very beginning, the ACA was designed to fail. It would survive through the Obama Presidency but would fail shortly after the next President took office. That was supposed to be Hillary Clinton who would come to save American lives by passing a single payer health care plan. Thank goodness, that didn't happen. For your information, Socialist Bernie Sanders ran on a platform of creating a single payer health care system. His proposed single payer plan was turned down by the Vermont legislature because its cost exceeded the State's entire yearly budget. Good old Nancy Pelosi's Socialist friends proposed single payer health plan, the Healthy California Act (SB 562). Under the bill, the state would cover medical care for every resident in California, including those without legal immigration status. Enrollees would not have to pay premiums, co-payments or deductibles. Sounds fantastic but the plan would cost $400 billion a year almost as much as the debt-ridden State's annual budget. With this in mind, here's what the socialist Democrat Party single payer health care plan would cost you - the taxpayer.
Health care expenditures in 2016 amounted to $3.2 trillion. ($3,200,000,000,000) The 2016 Federal Budget was $3.65T, income $3.2T with a deficit of $450 billion. The U.S. population in 2016 was 322,762,018 people. According to the 2010 census, approximately 25% of the U.S. population is under the age of 18 and 15% of the population is over 65. We do not expect children to pay for their own health care expenses and the majority of people 65+ have Medicare which covers 80% of their health care costs. So it is fair to assume that the number of people in the U.S. of working age would be (322,762,018)x(100%-25%-15%) or 193,657,211 people. Now assume that EVERYONE in the working age bracket had a job. Then each persons FAIR SHARE of the health care costs would be $3.2T / 193,657,211 or $16,524 per person. Now we know that not everyone in that age bracket works - so the actual amount of money to be collected from every working American would be much higher, probably in the $20,000 to $25,000 range. So, American taxpayers, if you want to have adequate health care for everyone in the United States it's going to cost you a minimum of $16524 per year in added taxes. That's if you're working. Actually, it will be a lot more since there are many Americans out of a job or who simply don't want to work and live off of your government provided hand-outs. One final thing. As of May 2017, only 6.5 million people have government subsidized ObamaCare policies; premiums averaging about $583/month. That's only 2% of the population. Obama opened up Medicaid to absorb the vast majority of the uninsured. States provide the primary source of funds with the federal government subsidizing States with $660 billion in 2016. Medicaid was designed to help only the very, very poor. Obama expanded it to cover many middle-class Americans. in essence giving them 'free medical care'. As the Democrat's ads state, "many Veterans rely upon Medicaid for their health coverage" (as do many middle class families). This is 'free' healthcare. However, someone has to pay for that 'free' health care and if you have any brains at all, you know that 'someone' is you - the working American taxpayer.
So, it's not that the Republicans are out to 'kill people'. That's absolutely absurd, but typical Democratic hate speech. If you want to keep people from dying, the 'Government' can't do it without your help. The Government is you. If you want to keep people from dying - it's your responsibility to pay not only for your health coverage but for those who cannot afford it since you are in essence the government. That's the essence of a single payer system.

I'm so happy to see this communication continuing.  Thanks for your post.  I really wish that AARP could be a neutral source for those 55 and older.  Tired of the fake fear they are pushing on all who are gullible enough to believe.  Michigan Republican!

Who do you think took that and more from Medicaid to fund the pathetic Obama Care that has cost us so much?  Your beloved Obama!   Thanks to the Republican efforts, America will be Great Again.  The last administration was trying to flush us down the toilet.

Total agreement....does AARP ever ask the membership what we think, of course the answer to that is NO! Did AARP propose a better plan? Are they going to keep funding the disaster of Obama or AARP care so the rest of us don't have to? Maybe what we need to do is renew the leadership just like what we did in Washington! Drain the swamp!
