Price for dental implants

I am in need of dental implants and have gotten a quote from an oral surgeon for about $2100 per implant. Does this sound like it's in line with what you are seeing, or should I shop around some more. I am not insured, so this would be the out-of-pocket costs. By the way, I live in California.

There is something called 'mini implants' that are much less expensive.

This is not a recommendation just information - I'm looking into them myself for a single lower tooth.

Whether it is a traditional or mini implant there must be bone available to embed and hold onto the implant. But before I go further letโ€™s get some terminology: implants are the metal core-screw that is embedded below the gum line with a portion sitting above the gum line enabling the crown-cap-tooth to attach to.
Often Oral Surgeons will do the implant and a General Dentist will do the Crown portion; unless you have a provider who is certified licensed Prosthodontist doing both the implant and crown portion. (The American Board of Prosthodontics (ABP) Diplomate Link: https://www.abpros.org/). Please do research your provider and ask them questions!
Bone graft is used to build up either the upper or lower jaw bone and can take 3 months for the graft join itself to existing bone and this is not painful, the sturdier the bone the better implant retention and success.
From what I read, seems to me that mini implants are for people who donโ€™t have enough bone and you should ask why you are not being offered or selected for bone grafting, what is the medical reason why bone grafting is not an option for you.

Be alert to: if they are not providing bone grafting then, yes, mini implants should cost less. But ask this: what does your provider charge for traditional vs mini implant? Is there a huge difference in price? Do mini implants have the same lifespan as traditional, what is the fail rate for mini implants vs traditional? How many implants has your provider done, what is their success rate, questions need to be asked and should a provider bristle at questions consider that provider is not the right one for you.

I looked at a website and found their explanation of โ€œbenefitsโ€ of mini implants over traditional implants to be misleading with persuasive wording whose intent was to sway with terms of: less invasive procedure, faster healing time, extensive surgery, virtually no discomfort, less dental visits.
And this I found alarming: โ€œMini dental implants are made out of titanium and they are not subject to decay and periodontal diseaseโ€ wait a minute -- only teeth can have dental decay and periodontal disease is gum disease so technically correct that titanium doesnโ€™t decay but doesnโ€™t the gum also grasp and help hold the implant and crown in place, right? Ask your provider questions. I have traditional implants.

As I said it was just info, not a recommendation.

I've also read online that traditional implants are normally used for back teeth and molars and may be too large for the single front tooth I'd like replaced.

It is true that implant prices varies widely between the states and even within the city. It is very important that you shop around. Also, it's worth it to look for Medicare certified oral surgeon for your eligibility for Medicare to subsidize your case based on medical necessity. If you are eligible, they will pay almost entire amount of implant cost. If that's the case, you could get implant and crown at more than 50% less. Reimbusement rate for Medicare is different state to state so I recommend check with your local Medicare certified oral surgeon.

some of these replys state the price...which is fine. What I'm asking is-is that price for just 1 toothe or for a section, or the whole upper/lower plate. They don't say...and I really need to know for my budget-it's really tight. Thank you for your time. ๐Ÿ™‚

One local dentist estimated $3800 for an implant, abutment and crown recently. A perio specialist who did my implant a few years ago charged $3500 for extraction, implant and abutment. My regular dentist charged $1100 for the crown. So the total for that implant 3 years ago was $4600. Apparently prices vary widely.

I just got an estimate from an oral surgeon to remove one tooth, clean out the infection from it and the last extraction, add three bone grafts, later put in two posts, about $6000.

This does not include the dentist building the prosthesis.
Out of pocket except for $2000. I can wait on some of it until 2016 so that we can increase our medical withholding.....

I clinch and grind my teeth.  I broke the root of a crowned tooth located in the back where most chewing is done.  So I HAD to get an implant.  STICKER SHOCK:  The Perio doctor charged $3200.00 for his work.  Now my dentist is charging $1900.00 for the crown - NOT GOLD.  I had 2 implants done in 2007 for a total cost of $5000.00  I can't believe the actual costs have doubled since then!!  I read in last month's AARP magazine that the average cost for the entire process was $1100.00.  They need to vet whoever furnishes such information.

I shopped for implants for almost 6 months, even looking off shore, i.e., India, Asia, Mexico, South America and the Bahamas after I was quoted $50,000 for 8 implants w/crowns which included an extraction and a bone graft.  To make a long story short, I found a local (Southern California) Harvard trained surgeon who will have completed my implant work (crowns)  this month.  The work he did was a bit more extensive than what the orginal $50,000 quote was based on.  I will have had the following completed at the end of this journey: 9 implants with crowns, 2 bone grafts, 1 extraction, 1 root canal, a deep root cleaning and all the xrays.  He bills the insurance company for any and all insurance covered expenses.  The total cost is $12,180.  He is an amazing surgeon.  I am extremely impressed with his work.  He's been doing implant surgury for over 30 years, so he's seen most everything regarding implants.  To say I'm pleased would be an understatement.  I have an appointment at the end of this month for the fitting of the crowns and two weeks later their placement.  It will be good to chew again:). He advertises implants including crowns at $1,350 per tooth in pairs.  These are molar prices.  He charges more for front teeth.

Could I have his name?  I live in Wisconsin and they are quoting around $5,000.  I would be willing to take a trip to California and combine with a winter vacation.

In Response to Re: Price for dental implants:
In Response to Price for dental implants : Not a bad price. I paid $2600 + $1100 for the crown. Hated to part with the money but it was a front tooth.

You can also get low cost dental care at the Dental Schools, if there is one in your area.
Has anyone tried them?

Well, I may just travel to get a dental implant. The cost is rediculous and there is little to no compensation on any plan I've seen so far unless you wait for a year. Might as well travel and enjoy your life rather than stay put and pay the rates here. Thanks for the idea!
