OptumRX must be run by a bunch of numskuls. Website does not work, orders do not go through, credit card info is lost, and that is just my first try to get meds from them.

Oh I long for the days of when I had private insurance throug UHC and they used Medco mail order pharmacy a few years back.  NEVER a problem with MEDCO.  Then, it became Express Scripts.  HORRIBLE customer service and dropped calls non-stop when called in and insanely exorbitant hold times.  I didn't think it could get any worse.  Until I had to start using Optum RX with my Medicare Advantage plan.  Customer service is so-so, and hold times aren't too bad.  However, they cannot give you an answer as far as what is taking so long to process an order and get it shipped out when you paid $12.50 extra to expedite it and have it shipped overnight UPS.  It was paid for last Thursday, 4 days ago, and it is still so-called "processing", and has been "processing" for 4 days now,  and still not showing as "ready for shipment" or "shipped."  I mailed this prescription in 12 days ago, and they are showing as received it a week ago.  I thought I was always told rule of thumb to allow 12 - 14 days from the day you mail it to expect to receive your prescription in the mail?  I thought this process might get sped up a little by paying extra for the overnight shipping?  But, I guess I was wrong............  Granted they are going to "credit my optumrx account"??????  for the amount charged for UPS, but it is going to take 3 business days for this, and I still don't know if this amount can be transferred as a credit back to my card that paid for the expedited shipping?  I am a "younger" AARP member due to disability, but I feel really sorry for older members that have to put up with this garbage of a pharmacy and waste valuable retirement time!   I personally have called them multiple times in the last 5 days.  You are supposed to be enjoying your retirement, not having to deal with this c**p wasting your time on the phone!  It is supposed to be more convenient and cheaper than a local pharmacy.  C'mon OptumRX, get your act together!  Why does it take so long to process prescription renewals that have previously been mailed in to your pharmacy?  What is the big hold up?  What, because now it has been requested through a P.A. for name brand instead of generic that you recently had a shortage of?  What a joke!

I’m having the same issues. Dr office faxed over drugs with specific directions to not fill rx until next month so they could give us a month to start with. They apparently filled and STOPPED the drugs from being sent causing the hospital to have issues filling.

I'm sure that there are many who have had no problems. Unfortunately, I spent a lot of wasted time on the phone with Optum. They messed up on my automatic refills. Once I finally got someone who was knowledgeable, I did get my medications promptly. I've dealt with a couple of Part D providers and never had such problems.

I've read so many bad things about Optum RX but from my experience, they've been great. We always get a notice of when it's time to renew and the meds get here in just a few days. We've never had a problem.

I too had great luck with Express Scripts. Great service. So far OptumRx and their partner, BriovaRx are nightmares.

United Healthcare, OptumRx, BriovaRx Disasters Come on AARP Cut Them Loose

Message 7 of 92 (4,966 Views)

I've just started medicare and have encountered the United Healthcare, OptumRx, BriovaRx triple quest to achieve total incompetence.

Hard to tell which is worse but combined they pose a threat to ones sanity and health.  First attempt out of the gate was such a convoluted process that I just went to a local pharmacy.

I thought, it must just be the start up for a new patient that's the problem.  But round two should have shown me that it was either incompetence or corporate policy to deny prescriptions, say they hadn't spoken withe the doctor's office, give bogus delivery dates, rescind those dates and stall, stall, stall.

Again, I though it must be a hiccup in the system.  OK, round three is a wash, rinse and repeat.  Doctor's office calls, they promise to contact me.  They don't.  I call.  They say I'm not registered.  So we go through the registration drill.

Get moved to the next department.  They don't have any record for me, even thought they had fulfilled (finally) a previous prescription.

Eventually, they figure out that whoever just registered me (again) had used the wrong name.  They corrected that but said the doctor's office had to call them.  Which is totally crazy because the doctor's office had called them.  But I had the doctor call them today and at the end of the day I receive a prerecorded call saying my Prior Authorization has been denied.

I'm beginning to believe that United Healthcare is not in the business of providing healthcare but in denying it.  Sort of like a casino does in Las Vegas.  They don't make any money if you win.  In this case UHC doesn't make any money if they fill a prescription.  Vegas rules.

Which makes perfect sense if you're running a casino but not if you're supposed to be keeping people healthy.  I'm thinking AARP is going to lose its credibility if they continue to allow these operators to operate under their name.

You know Karl a lot of people have had problems with OptumRX not sure why it had to get so personal.  I don't use them anymore as there is no customer service specially when you have to deal with a representative.

The point is whoever is in charge of getting your prescriptions to you, shouldn't be sending you the wrong medication. I'm not currently using OptumRx. Unfortunately, my State pension insurance will be switching from Express Scripts to OptumRx in January. I have no choice in the matter, and with all of the OptumRx issues I have been reading about, I’m not looking forward to the switch. I found this thread googling OptumRx. I found many other negative reviews on various websites. People have no reason to make that stuff up. I have great service from Express Scripts (formerly Medco), for many years. I always received my medication in less than a week, and there was never an issue of something being wrong with the order. I'll find out in January for myself. Any problems with OptumRx, I'll just pay more at my local pharmacy. I don't have the patience for playing games.

OPTUM RX has no quality control.  They included 20 pills of an entirely different drug in my last order.  When i called to complain the pharmacist that I spoke to was rude and abrasive and said "the pills didn't come from them" implying that I had put them in the bottle myself.  Unbelievable!
