Re: TOO-FREQUENT MAILINGS FOR RENEWING AARP MEMBERSHIP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Message 1 of 44 (2,571 Views)

PLEASE!!! Stop sending me renewals over and over.  Don't you understand that these are confusing and misleading to seniors; the very group of people you serve.  My membership expires 2/2017. Please send my 'real' renewal about 30 days before it expires.  Stop wasting money and confusing us. Stupid.. stuipd way to hand this.

I believe that, because this is a forum and not the customer service site, you'd need to email them any complaints at AARPServiceDesk@unisys.com with this information. I did that through the contact info on their website, and received the reassurance that future mailings would stop. We'll see . . . My last notice I checked and they do at least indicate the membership expiration date now. Here is a portion of the reply:

". . . .  Per your request, I have removed your name from our renewal offerings mailing list.  We appreciate your understanding that any mailings already in progress cannot be recalled. Please allow 6 weeks for the change to take full effect.

You may be interested in signing up for the Continuous Membership Service Program, which automatically renews memberships annually and eliminates renewal notices.  Use your credit card to enroll in the program and you will be charged for a one-year membership at the discounted rate of $12.00.   Once enrolled, you will be charged $16.00 each year you renew your 1-year membership and remain in the program.  A notification will be sent to you 90 days prior to your membership’s expiration date to remind you that your membership will be automatically renewed and your credit card on file will be charged.  You may, of course, opt out of the program at any time.  To sign up, call us toll-free at 1-888-OUR-AARP (1-888-687-2277).

Thank you again for sharing your comments. Please know that we appreciate and act on feedback such as yours, because, together, we’re all about ensuring the best experience for our members! if i can be of any further assistance, please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,

I'm sick of this repeated mail saying to renew my card way before it is due. This is such a waste of money to send these plastic cards repeatedly with a letter. Just the cost of mailing and printing must be astronomical. Also members may pay again without checking their actual due date.

Agree that this must STOP

I just received a renewal notice for our membership that expires next February.
On the renewal form it asks me to consider renewing for a longer term to 'save AARP the cost of future mailings'. Translation: Our support for the socialists in DC as well as our scams that prey on the elderly have been exposed and we need money'.
I only have AARP because it saves me 3x what I pay in annual dues on some bills.
AMAC and others are eating into AARP enormous lobbying budget as more people become educated as to what AARP actually supports versus what they advertise. Kind of like America's Abortion Industry calling themselves 'Planned Parenthood'.

Yes there is...go online and register with AARP and enter your account #. You should do this anyway for it is a great resource for benefits and deals in your locale. With that, I may cancel my membership because I did go online and I saw my membership expired in Jan 2017....a ful 6 mths away. The integrity of AARP is obviously questionable.

This is the first Google search result when I went to investigate the fraud of AARP sending premature renewal notices. It just happened to me and my husband. Fortunately I did look up my account online to see it was 6 full months before my membership expired. AARP serves the elderly and I know for a fact that many of these folks would not have the where-with-all or the doubt to followup on the account. Now I see they are aware of this and they are still doing it. This is no gray area...this is a SCAM and as mentioned...FRAUDULENT. I am disgusted.

I just receive a renewal notice and my membership doesn't expire until November 2016. A simple question is why does AARP issued these notices that far in advance. A 30 day notice would do the job and make everyone comfortable with the renewal process. On fixed income I don't want to pay for a renewal 5 months in advance.

Thank You

I agree, too.  And there is no way to check on-line to see what my membership expiration date is.
