Winter Care for Dog Paws

Message 1 of 1

While snowshoeing today we encountered a number of dog owners. About half of the dogs had on jackets --and why not? We were over 10,000 feet above sea level, there was 5 feet of snow on the ground, and the wind chill was occasionally ferocious.

Each pet owner had their dogs leashed. So we are not talking about bad pet owners here. Still, one thing I saw troubled me. On the way down the mountain I noticed blood in the paw prints left by a dog that had passed us some 10 minutes earlier. Clearly the owner had no idea. Hopefully the injuries are minor and the dog will heal quickly.

So let this be a reminder to take care of the needs of your dog's paws this winter.
