Ha........I'm chuckling because I play "mindless" games like Candy Crush (serious bedtime addiction that has replaced reading 'cause I can only stay awake so long when I hit the sack)  I purposely don't try to strategize my moves in that game, K.I.S.S.  But it is a stress-buster for me since I am not 100% retired yet, have an elderly parent who keeps me constantly concernded, and also have some weekly care time with 2 grandchildren.  Love those kids to the moon and back but the reality is I'm not 30 anymore and they wear me out well and they bicker like siblings will, and it's stressful.  So mental challenges are not what I'm seeking in games at this time.......Candy Crush, Spider Solataire.......minimal thinking, little buzzes when I win, and point collecting goals.  Have also added game night with hubs on the Tah-Doooo list, love backgammon, scrabble and uno.  Have to get him pumped up tho.

I've played games for years because they're fun, but the fact that they benefit the brain doesn't hurt either.  I got away from crosswords a while ago, but am hoping to get back into them some day.  Currently, I work on Sudoku, grid-style logic problems and other puzzle word games. I also like to play Trivia and Scrabble.

My favorite puzzles involve numbers and logic.  I especially love Ken Ken, Sudoku, and logic grid puzzles.  I've been doing them for years, not necessarily for brain health, but just because they're fun.

Yes. Crossword puzzles, hidden object puzzles, word search, word scramble, sudoko, cryptograms etc.etc. Also read, exercise and volunteer. Do a lot of History searches for our local center. So far so good, hope the brain and the body holds up for at least another 10 years or so.
